GAME QUESTIONS AND (maybe) SOME ANSWERS
GETTING STARTEDWhat do I need to play? You will need a minimum of 30 cards to play. 17 playable cards are included in every pack. Therefore, you will need to buy 2 packs to get started. 3 packs (51 cards) is optimal because then you can start customizing your deck. You will also need a kicker (small coin-shaped object), a stoke ladder (to keep track of your stoke), a rule sheet (so you can't cheat), and a friend to play with (so you're not sad and lonely). Fortunately, all of the items (except for the friend) are included in every pack. Are there booster packs?Stoked! is unlike most other trading card games. One of the big differences is that there are no 'starter' or 'booster' packs. This game is so well designed that you will get everything you need in each pack.Is there a game mat?Nope. No more carrying around that dorky game mat just so you can play your game. Stoked! brings back the core TCG experience by eliminating that large and flimsy gimmick that so many games are dependent upon these days. Can Socalia and Vegalas be played together?Yes. You can customize your deck with ANY combination of Stoked! trading cards. ALL cards can be played against each other. Are there rare cards?Of course. The Birdhouse cards in Edition One are the rare cards. There are 20 of them. Go get 'em.PLAYING THE GAMEHow do I play the game?Read the rules. What happens if I have terrains or crew in my claim that require more stoke than I currently have (because I lost stoke and am now lower than the stoke requirements)? If your stoke drops below the stoke requirement of ANY card in your claim, the card stays in your claim but the card's ability is not valid. Once you get your stoke back to the requirement level the card's ability becomes active again. The advantage of cards bought with cash is that they do not have these stoke requirements.Do I need to practice sequences in order (i.e. 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, etc.)?Nope. Sequence cards can come out in any order. The only limitation is that you cannot add repeat cards to the sequence. How many cards can I have in my claim? As many as you can come up with. You can have an unlimited amount of Crew, Gear, Sponsors, Maneuvers, etc. The only limitation is terrains (one per wasteland). How many cards can I play during my turn?As many as you can come up with. A good example is a Crew with Mob Ability (i.e. Community Patrol). If it requires 200 stoke and you have 3 of them in your hand, you can play all of them during your turn if your stoke is 200 or more. The 'Nollie Smith' sequence is marked as an 8 card sequence but I only see 5 frames on the side of the card. What's up?Yep, the good ol' Nollie Smith. There was a printing error on that sequence. It should be played as a 5 card sequence. It's a good sequence for building up quickly and getting sponsored. Hold onto those cards and sell them on EBAY in 10 years. All future prints of those cards will be corrected. Can you give me some hints on customizing my deck?Check out this section on different Stoked! strategies.Do I need the complete sequence in my deck before I can play it?Nope. You can play with any combination of complete or incomplete sequences. Actually, you'll find that sometimes it's more advantageous to have a few cards from many sequences in your deck. Other times it's better to have one or two complete sequences. It all depends on what you're trying to do.While playing the game I came across a grind stunt that combos with street sequences. I had a 3 card street sequence already in my claim. Is that stunt card allowed to combo with a 3 card sequence or are combo maneuvers only allowed to combo with 1 card?First of all, sequences are treated as a single maneuver regardless of how many cards are in it at the time. Just because you have 3 of the cards in your claim does not mean that you have 3 sequence maneuvers. Secondly, a maneuver with a combo ability can only combo with a maneuver that has a corresponding combo ability. For example, the grind stunt mentioned above can only be used as a combo with a street sequence that has a "Combo with grind" ability (or something like it). Just because you have a grind stunt with a combo ability does not mean that you can combo it with any ol' maneuver. The 'Kickflip To Fakie' sequence (Socalia) does not have a maneuver grid on it. How should this be played? The Kickflip to Fakie sequence is played as a street-only maneuver. How come some of my maneuvers have multiple types listed in the maneuver grid? Many of the maneuvers in this game have multiple types listed in the maneuver grid. For example, a grind stunt might also have park and ramp highlighted in the grid. All maneuvers must be practiced as their primary maneuver type (designated by the border color of the card / Grind-Red, Street-Yellow, Park-Green, Ramp-Blue). FOR STUNTS - Once you have successfully practiced and claimed a stunt you can attempt it as any of the maneuver types highlighted in the maneuver grid. FOR SEQUENCES - Once you have completed a sequence you can attempt it as any of the maneuver types highlighted in the maneuver grid.I was playing a game with my buddy who played several cards that gave him extra kickers. One attached to his claim and gave him +3 kickers per turn. The others attached to specific maneuvers and gave the maneuvers +2 kickers per turn. That's a lot of extra kickers! Can he use them all?Yep. The card that attached to his claim is more of an umbrella of exrta kickers that can be used for any maneuver. The cards that attached to specific maneuvers can only be used for those maneuvers. Let's say he attempts one of those maneuvers and bails with his first kicker flip. He then uses one of his extra kickers (from the card attached to the maneuver) and bails again. Then he uses the second and final extra kicker and bails again. At this point he can use the extra kickers from the card attached to his claim (up to 3). If he flips Land! on any of those extra kickers he still lands the trick. This is why extra kickers are extremely important in developing consistency. NOTE: Let's assume he bails on the first kicker flip and then uses his first extra kicker (from the attached card) and lands it. He CANNOT use the leftover second extra kicker on any other maneuver. When I practice any stunt or sequence, do they all risk 10 stoke (unless they say otherwise)? When I attempt a stunt or single sequence on a terrain, does it risk 10 stoke?Stunts risk the amount of stoke marked in the ability section (regardless of whether it's being practiced from your hand or attempted from your claim). Sequences risk 10 stoke per card (once they are successfully practiced they can be attempted 2, 3, 4 cards at a time etc). After a successful practice attempt, a sequence card is placed into my claim. Can I practice sequence cards in wastelands while i'm waiting to get a terrain?First of all, the maneuver is placed into your claim on your next turn (not right away). And yes, keep practicing sequences on wastelands until you start bringing out terrains. Any maneuver in your claim must be attempted on a terrain. Wastelands are for practicing sequences only. Also, once you have maneuvers in your claim you can attempt them on your opponent's terrains even if you don't have any (as long as the terrain is fresh).Kung Fu Wolf card - Crew - does this card stay in my claim & affect the targeted rider for the entire game until one of my other crew cards are discarded?Crew and gear cards stay in your claim unless it says otherwise. This is one of the few cards that is worded a little tricky. It stays in your claim. Anytime you have 180 or more stoke and survive a challenge you get to search your deck for a sequence card. PS - It doesn't target any rider. When you receive extra kickers during gameplay, can you use coins, etc. if you run out of Stoked! kickers? The term 'extra kicker' refers to an extra kicker flip. You can flip the same kicker over and over again. It has nothing to do with quantity of kickers.Disobedience Blunt - Sequence - If I have 1 through 8 and a duplicate copy of 3, does this mean I can attempt a 8 card sequence, and then grab the duplicate copy of 3 and attempt another 8 card sequence?Look under "More About Sequences". Any duplicate sequence cards must be used as a separate sequence. Yes you could technically have 2 Disobedience Blunt sequences with 8 cards each. In fact that's a good strategy if you eliminate all other sequences and stack your deck with just those as your sequence maneuvers (although you'd be limited to grinds only). You cannot add a duplicate copy of 3 to the sequence. The Disobedience Blunt ability simply refers to moving cards from one copy of the sequence to another. This is good if an opponent player has attached an unfortunate gear or crew on one of the sequence copies.Duke O' Smoove card - Crew - Could I keep this card in my claim and continually pay $3 to cancel a crew's ability for the rest of the game (if I had enough cash)? "Use up to 3 times per turn" - does this mean I can target 3 different crew cards?Yep. It stays. All crew stays. You could use it 3 times every turn but it would cost you $9 per turn.Once you attach a gear card (like Sponsor Me Video) to a sequence or terrain, can you re-attach it to another card or is it there until it fulfills its job?No. Once attached to something it stays attached. If the card it is attached to is discarded or destroyed the attachment goes with it. Some cards can re-attach but it has to say so in the ability.Runaway Cart - Terrain - can I use this by itself as a terrain on a wasteland?Nope. It says it must be attached to a terrain. There are other cards similar to it (DIY ramp etc) that can be used as an attachment OR a terrain. But not the cart.Under Construction Method - do I have to practice this on another rider's terrain, or can i practice it on my own, if i choose? It is just a normal stunt card. It can be practiced on another rider's terrain but that is just an ability and is not required. If a maneuver cannot be targeted, does that also mean it cannot be challenged?Challenging has nothing to do with targeting (unless someone targets your challenge).Combos - do you combine the sequences, and attempt the whole thing at once, or do you attempt the first part, and then attempt the 2nd, regardless of whether the terrain supports it?Attempt all at once (as if it were a single maneuver). Consolidating your attempts helps conserve your extra kickers and your odds of landing the trick. Both maneuvers in the combo must be supported by the terrain.Nose Manual Gamble (Socalia Stunt) - Can you use extra kickers? How do you combo with this stunt?Yes you can use extra kickers. Attempt like normal. The only difference is that you keep attempting again and again. This stunt does not say "Combo with...", therefore you can't use it as a combo. What is the purpose of Decoy Boy (Socalia Gear)? There are a couple cards in this edition that are placed face-down on terrains etc. They usually do some kind of damage. This card is used to act like one of those cards or to cause confusion in general.Kung Fu Wolf (Birdhouse Crew) - This card says "play after surviving a challenge". Should I attach this to something? On the next print-run "play" will be replaced with "attach to your claim".When a card says "attach to claim" can i just get it out of my hand regardless of if i have enough stoke to play it?No. You have to meet the stoke requirement before you can attach it to your claim etc. |
